Before I started making photographs, a Still Life meant Cezanne’s apples, or Giorgio Morandi’s bottles and vases: inanimate objects beautifully frozen in time.
But while looking through the rangefinder of my camera, another expression of a Still Life emerged: one of human figures captured in a moment in time—their moment: to pause, to move, to contemplate, to look, to be.
Through the lens of my imagination, these figures suspended in stillness during life’s ephemeral moments embody what it means to simply be alive.
