I am an impressionist landscape oil painter, utilizing the alla prima technique which, simply put, is painting wet into wet. This method allows me to keep edges soft, blending colors directly on the canvas before the paint dries.

In this group of paintings, my goal has been to explore the interplay of light and architecture, capturing the essence of quintessential Chicago. The city’s iconic structures serve as subject and canvas, transforming under the shifting illumination of day and night. Whether painting reflections on Lake Michigan as the sun dips behind the skyscrapers and the city lights blink on, or shadows cast by the buildings on busy Michigan Avenue on a sunny day, it is always light and its effects that inspire me. Using rich, vibrant color, I aim to convey not just the physical beauty of Chicago, but also the emotions it evokes. Each painting invites viewers to experience the familiar in a new light, encouraging a deeper connection to the urban landscape, and to reflect upon their own experiences within the city.
