I started this series of wall-mounted sculptures during the 2020 pandemic.

Because of the rapid and vast spread of COVID 19 it was obvious just how connected we all are in the world. This global situation guided meto construct a complex interwoven system of various physical elements in size, material and color joined in a multitude of points, metaphorically representing the dynamics of current life.

I take inspiration from the ancient Chinese Yin and Yang symbol whereby contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected and interdependent. I also delight in the Buddhist mandalas and their representation of focal energies and metaphysical wholeness. Akin to these powerful symbols I want the viewer to take a visual journey meandering in and out and around the sculpture. Building within the parameters of a rigid gridded composition much like the stepped Manhattan cityscape viewed outside my Brooklyn studio window, I'm focused on the sensitivity of proportion, weight and the necessity of balance (the sculptures hang by one central fixed point nail).

In keeping with the liveliness and complexity of form, my color palette (made up of indelible inks and paints) respectfully references the bold and vivid palette of the early 20th century Fauvist painters and even a homage to Bauhaus.
