Through this work I embrace the power we have to engage storytelling with our own preferences, to manipulate recorded memory. I developed a method I call “Moon Shadowing” to capture a feeling that reflects my favorite recollections of the past through distorted visual documentation, rather than a snapshot of reality.

Life is full of huge, challenging transitions, from sending kids to college to selling a long-time family home. This method provides a way to happily reminisce about things so important to me that I no longer have. More broadly, “Moon Shadowing” allows me to control the narrative using a chain of desired references and create simple, distorted, favorable shadows of the best memories I have. The goal of this work is to allow me and the viewer to enjoy a new chapter of life, by re-creating who or where we have always been.
