Refraction series is a body of work about dualities in our natural world; its power and fragility, its destruction and beauty. Our concern for our planet and climate change can be overwhelming as our last places of quiet untouched nature become more scarce. These large-scale landscape paintings are my own meditation on the power of the earth to heal us and its power to heal itself. Done on site, I sit in quiet contemplation in a place of natural beauty. Once fully in touch with my surroundings, I begin my mark making. Using natural elements; wind, water, salt, sticks even my own breath to move the ink, I create large scale topographic paintings based on these marks often created with what seems like mother nature’s alchemy.
