In my Chicago neighborhood, there is a restored native prairie where I take a daily meditative walk. I draw inspiration for the paintings by looking at the fractal patterns and colors in this ever changing natural area. I create mandalas, paper quilts and paintings inspired by nature. The ‘quilts’ are created by orizomegami technique in which I fold the handmade mulberry paper and then dip it into watercolors. The color combinations and brushwork are inspired by native prairie blossoms and the fractal patterns found in nature. By highlighting the beauty of these natural areas, I hope to of bring attention to the importance of the restoration of these vital ecosystems.
